Blood Pressure Self Monitoring Program

Something for everyone

Date Details: February 26th - May 28th

Are you one of the 80 million adults across our country dealing with high blood pressure? Less than half of that number are able to keep their blood pressure under control, despite having access to quality health care and medication, increasing the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Welcome to the YMCA's Blood Pressure Self- Monitoring (BPSM) program! During this 4 month program, participants will be partnered with a trained Healthy Heart Ambassador for personal, bi-weekly consultations on taking their own blood pressure, and will meet monthly as a group to learn how modifying their nutrition and physical activity can significantly reduce their blood pressure. Each participant will be able to track their progress and celebrate the improvement!

To qualify, participants must be at least 18 years old, be diagnosed with high blood pressure, and not have experienced a recent cardiac event, atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias. The cost is minimal: $40 if you already own a blood pressure monitor, or $65 if you need a monitor provided.

Join us on Tuesday, February 26th, 5:30-7 pm, in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living, (inside the Parkview Warsaw YMCA)for a preview of the BPSM program. Light appetizers will be served, and staff members will present a nutrition topic on how to eat heart healthy for life as well as provide an overview of the program, and answer your questions. This event is free and open to all, but registration is required. Contact Tracy Frick at or 574-269-9622, ex 232 with questions or to register. Change your life, and your blood pressure, for the better!

The Y has really changed my life. I have made many friends. I became friends with some of the staff who ask about me when I am not there and if everything is alright. The Y is a big part of my life. I feel like family and at home at the YMCA.
