Winter Classes and Events at the Y

The Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting winter classes on January 8. Classes will run through February 18. Classes for youth will include swim lessons, youth fitness and gymnastics classes for all ages. Registration for winter classes will start for everyone on December 18.

Classes that promote the Healthy Living aspect of your Y will include group exercise and Indoor Group Cycling, classes for older adults and water aerobics in both the Warm Water and Lap Pools. The YMCA’s Adult Co-ed Volleyball League will be starting up again on Mondays on January 8 through March 26, 7:00-10:00 p.m. Register a team by January 3. Maximum of 4 males on a team and the team can be between 6 and 9 players. For more information please contact Zane Gard at

To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Kathy’s Cancer Conversations,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA. On January 8th the topic will be “Laugher Yoga” and on February 12th the group will be able to “Ask the Oncologist”. This support group is free and open to anyone affected by cancer. English as a Second Language will be offered at the Y in partnership with Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church for those 18 and up on Tuesdays starting January 9, 6:30-8:00 p.m. There are 5 different levels based on ability. Badminton is a new sport at the YMCA with open play on Tuesday evenings, January 9-March 22, 6:30-7:45 and on Sundays, January 21-May 20, 1:00-3:00 p.m. For more information please contact Zane Gard at

There will be a 5 on 5 Adult Basketball League on Thursdays starting between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. at the Parkview Warsaw YMCA, January 11-March 29. Teams should have 7-10 players. Sign up by January 7. For more information please contact Zane Gard at

The Adult Beginner Spanish 3 course starting on January 16 will be a progressive course offering Spanish for adults. This class will require a basic understanding of Spanish grammar. The class meets on Tuesdays, January 16-May 8, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room 2. Sign up by January 12. For more information please contact Zane Gard at

The YMCA is partnering with Crosswinds Counseling to offer a monthly seminar titled “Maximizing Your Marriage.” These seminars will enable individuals and families to claim control, restore relationships and build hope. They will include various assessments and exercises addressing the topic covered each month. The seminars are informative, thought provoking and entertaining, and offer an emotionally supportive and interactive experience. The seminars are facilitated by Crosswinds Therapists and/or Family Coaches. They will take place in the Parkview Warsaw YMCA Multi-Purpose Room 2, 6:00-7:30 p.m., the 3rd Wednesday of each month in January, February and March. In January, “Love Languages” will be addressed, in February the “Effects of Stress on Children” will be discussed and in March the subject will be “Forgiveness”.

The YMCA’s 8 Weeks to Fitness will be starting on January 30th after pre-testing on January 29. For Y members only, this program is designed to combine regular physical activity with the knowledge and understanding to maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of diseases and promote overall health. Personal trainers will help participants set goals and work with them through them and through weekly nutrition accountability for 8 weeks in a small group setting. There will be initial blood work and follow-up blood work included in the program. Classes will be held four times a week at the YMCA to offer a wide variety of times for participants.
