Fall Registration 2018

Warsaw, IN (August 16, 2018) – Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting fall classes on September 4. Classes will run through October 28. Classes for youth will include swim lessons, gymnastics and youth fitness classes for all ages. New and returning youth fitness classes include Girls on the Go, Martial Arts and Sports Clinics. The Girls on the Go class for ages 11-14 will train together for a 5k while learning about healthy eating and a positive body image. Tae Kwon Do classes will be offered for ages 12-15 for any skill level. Sports Clinics will be for children ages 2-3 with a parent and ages 3-5 focusing on sports skills while learning to interact with other kids by playing soccer.

Classes for adults this fall include group exercise and Indoor Group Cycling classes, classes for older adults and water aerobics in both the Warm Water and Lap Pools. The Y will be offering the adult sports of Badminton, Pickleball, Co-ed Volleyball and Indoor Adult Soccer this fall. Join open-play-style doubles badminton in the gym on Tuesday nights, 7:30-10:00 p.m. starting September 4 or Sundays 1:30-4:00 p.m. starting September 9. Try open-play Pickleball on Fridays from 1:00-3:00 p.m. starting September 7. Co-ed Adult Volleyball Leagues will be held on Monday or Thursday evenings starting October 11. As part of the Y’s outreach to the community this fall, they’ll be offering a seminar on anxiety, parenting classes, a cancer support group and English as a Second Language (ESL). The Y will be partnering with Crosswinds Counseling to offer a seminar on dealing with anxiety on August 22, 6:30-8:00 p.m. This seminar will discuss differences in the biological, psychological and social elements that are commonly found with anxiety, as well as treatment tools and coping mechanisms. Parent Coaching sessions will be held on October 1 and 4, 6:30-8:00 p.m. by Tierney Boggs, certified parent coach. “Born to Create” will explore the benefits of encouraging children to be doers instead of hearers and watchers in today’s world. It will cover what it looks like to be intentional with the use of technology as parents. “Boys & Girls” will explore how a child’s gender is connected to their behavior and how they respond to parenting.

To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Celebrating Survivorship,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA. The topic oriented sessions will be combined with a light catered lunch in a Lunch N’ Learn format. On September 10, the group will look at the importance of physical exercise in survivorship. English as a Second Language will be offered at the Y for those 18 and up in partnership with Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church on Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m. starting September 11. There are 5 different levels based on ability. The class is free with an initial fee for the book. No need to register ahead of time, just show up to join the class.
