Why we ask for your help

The YMCA is more than a "gym and swim" we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that addresses critical needs in our local community through programs in youth development, healthy living and social responsbility.

Every day, we help people make their lives better, and every day we encourage our members and participants to commit themselves to strengthening the foundations of our community by being part of the Y. Here are two ways you can be a part of the mission of the Kosciusko Community YMCA:

  • YMCA Strong Kids Annual Support Campagin
  • Endowment Heritage Club

Thank you to everyone who donated in 2010!

Strong Kids Annual Support Campaign

Imagine the many ways there are to make a difference in the lives of people in our community.

Now imagine you can help make that difference.

The YMCA's Annual Strong Kids Campaign raises funds to assist in our mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Your contribution will help change the lives of those who most need YMCA programs.

Why give to the Y? Here is one story. . . I am a single parent of second grade twins Andrea and Bennett. We have great family support, however, there is not a male role model that they see frequently. To add to our struggles, my son has been diagnosed with a form of Autism. Bennett is extremely intelligent. He reads at a high school level and tests well above his grade level. However, Bennett has a hard time interacting socially with his peers. It is also difficult for him to understand appropriate behaviors, which is only made worse by the absence of a man for him to emulate. This school year Bennett has found a great male role model in Andrew Fiedler, Site Director at Leesburg Kids’ Club Before and After School Care. Andrew has demonstrated tremendous patience and compassion while taking care of Bennett. I know both of my children have enjoyed spending time with “Mr. Fiedler." Everyday they look forward to Kids’ Club. As a single working mother, the Y financial assistance program has allowed my kids to receive top quality childcare that I would not have otherwise been able to afford. I am so thankful the Y has allowed my children and I to participate through the financial assistance program.

By becoming a Y Friend, you can do more than imagine a better future- you can make it happen!

Endowment Heritage Club

On a Sunday afternoon in the late 1880’s, after having a few drinks with his professional baseball team buddies, Billy Sunday stopped on a corner in Chicago to listen to the Pacific Garden Mission street preachers.  Billy was attracted to the old gospel songs that his mother used to sing and began attending services.  A former society matron who used to work at the Mission convinced Billy that he must receive Christ, and after some struggle, he did so.  Shortly after his conversion, Billy began speaking at churches and at YMCAs.  In 1891 Billy Sunday turned down a professional baseball contract for $3,000 a year in order to accept a position at the Chicago YMCA, as an Assistant Secretary, for $83 a month.  I’m pretty sure you know the rest of the story….

How wonderful is this story?  How wonderful was it for Billy that he was able to use the YMCA as a place to share the word of God?  We wish to continue the YMCA’s great history of serving our community members.  We need to ensure the YMCA will be here for generations to come.  We wish to continue to offer the assistance to all as we did with Billy Sunday.  The Heritage Club is one way we can do this.

We wish to thank the individuals that are members of our Heritage Club:
