Wow, at my age I thought I should know already what to avoid eating, but I learned SO many beneficial tips from the Diabetes Prevention Class. And I'm so happy to say that today, a year later, I'm no longer in the "pre-diabetic" category, and know how to "stay out of it"!!!

A year ago I read about the "Y" offering a class for those who were "pre-diabetic", who wanted to prevent moving into the dreaded category of being a diabetic. I'd just learned that I fell into that group, and I definitely wanted to learn how to put a stop to it! I called and signed up for the year-long class, with some hesitancy, wondering what to expect. After a few weekly meetings the small group became like "friends" meeting to share and learn. Stacy, our leader, was so gentle, and encouraging as she shared with us things we needed to change. Wow, at my age I thought I should know already what to avoid eating, etc., but I learned SO many beneficial tips. And I'm so happy to say that today, a year later, I'm no longer in the "pre-diabetic" category, and know how to "stay out of it"!!!

The Y has played an instrumental part in helping us get wired into the town. Much of our support network was developed through relationships that we built at the YMCA.
