The Y has really changed my life. I have made many friends. I became friends with some of the staff who ask about me when I am not there and if everything is alright. The Y is a big part of my life. I feel like family and at home at the YMCA.

Lisa joined the Y last September when significant weight gain caused her to want to be healthier and lose weight. She says, "I never thought I would weigh 183 lbs. I got down and depressed, and I ate my feelings." Her parents helped her get a YMCA membership and when she joined she was partnered with Angie Oler as her Engagement Coach. Lisa needed help getting started and Angie tried different classes with her and taught her how to use the equipment. Lisa says, "The Y has made me a much better person with more confidence." Other people say she's come out of her shell, opened up and blossomed. She's lost 47 lbs, is off her asthma medication and ran her first 5k in May. She likes running now and uses the treadmill or swims 3 times a week. "The Y has really changed my life. I have made many friends. I became friends with some of the staff who ask about me when I am not there and if everything is alright. The Y is a big part of my life. I feel like family and at home at the YMCA. Thank you." One of the unexpected perks of being involved in the YMCA has not just been an improvement in feeling personal happiness, but developing many new friendships and a wonderful sense of community. When I walk into the YMCA, I can't help but think 'I belong here!'
